International travel is exciting, but preparing for a trip today can involve a little more than simply booking your flight and packing your suitcase. Passport requirements, entry rules, travel authorizations, and international regulations can change, and sometimes the hardest part is simply knowing what applies to your destination and where to find reliable information.

Start With Your Passport

If international travel is even a possibility in your future, take a look at your passport now. Don't wait until you're ready to leave to discover that it has expired or doesn't meet your destination's entry requirements.

Different countries can have different passport validity requirements, and processing a new or renewed passport takes time. My website will provide a direct link to the official U.S. Department of State passport resources, where you can find current information about applications, renewals, processing times, and requirements.

Heading to Europe? Watch for ETIAS

Travel to Europe is changing, too. One of the changes travelers will be hearing more about is ETIAS—the European Travel Information and Authorization System.

ETIAS is designed for eligible visa-exempt travelers visiting participating European countries for short stays. When the system becomes operational, travelers who are required to have an ETIAS authorization will need to take care of it before their trip.

Because implementation dates and requirements can change, I'll point you toward the official European Union resources rather than relying on potentially outdated information from third-party websites.
